Synthetic data. Not advice on a dose.

Use it for

  • A medication order, with when it was last given and the doses in the last 24 hours, including those not given and why.
  • An entry in a patient's medication list.
  • The same medicine for a patient, in plain words, with audience="patient".

Do not use it for

  • Choosing or changing a dose. The card shows what it is given. It checks nothing about the dose.
  • Recording a dose. The card has no form. Build one with Form.

Show the medicine as it was ordered

The medicine's name is shown as the source gave it, never shortened or re-cased: look-alike names are told apart by their letters. Tall Man lettering is not applied yet.

Read the dose in the guidelines' words

The card writes how a medicine is taken from the order's parts, in the order and words of the National Guidelines for On-Screen Display of Medicines Information: the DOSE in bold, how often, "when required for …", and the most in 24 hours. The route is a badge beside the medicine's name, in the words the order gives it. For a patient, the route is part of the instruction instead, such as "by mouth". Units are written in full where the guidelines ask, so "microgram", never "mcg", and "units", never "U". No medicine information is abbreviated.

When the parts cannot be put into those words, the card shows the prescriber's own text, as written.

Act on what the card says is missing

A "when required" order must say what it is for, and the most that may be given in 24 hours. When either is missing, the card says so under the dose. It does not fill the gap.

Check the last dose, not only the last given

"Last given" is the last dose given. When the latest dose was not given, the card says so. Why it was not given, such as "Patient declined", is in a tooltip on the badge, marked with an information icon, and a keyboard reaches it. In the dose history, the times, statuses and doses line up in columns.

Accessibility

  • The medicine's name is a heading, h3. Change the level with the Card title's render prop if your page needs another.
  • Each dose's time is a time element, with the full date and time for a screen reader.
